Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. Honored with American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers Prestigious Safety Award

HOUSTON – Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. (TPRI) Bayport Plant recently received the Elite Silver Safety award from the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) at a ceremony in San Antonio.

“Safety is a core value at Total and we are honored to receive this prestigious Safety Award from the AFPM,” said Brad Klussmann, plant manager of the Total Bayport plant. “This award is truly a testament to the Bayport Team who work day in and day out to ensure that everyone goes home safely.”

The AFPM Elite Silver Safety Award recognizes facilities safety performance in the top 5% and the Total Bayport plant was one of 12 nationally honored with this award. The awards are part of a comprehensive program developed by the AFPM Safety and Health Committee to promote safe operations and recognize facilities with outstanding occupational and process safety performance records.

“Safety success has to be a non-negotiable core element of each of us. It’s much deeper than anything we’re taught or any program or slogan,” said HDPE Operator James King who accepted the award on behalf of the plant. “Rules changes, priorities change, programs go away, but your core is always there. That’s where safety should reside. We are honored to be recognized for our dedication and performance.”

When asked about Bayport’s safety record, HSSE Manager Louis Meneghetti had this to say, “The outstanding Bayport safety performance is a direct result of the hard work of our employees and contractors at the site. A good reminder for all of us is that we must maintain a sense of vulnerability, and remain humble regarding safety performance.”

Congratulations to the Total Bayport employees on this outstanding accomplishment.
