An amibitious professional at total specialties in aviation
Kelly’s path to becoming the Aviation Fuels Scheduler at Total Specialties USA (TSUSA), was one that was charted for her by her environment. Born in Tokyo and raised in Houston by a geophysicist father, Kelly has always been immersed in the energy sector.
“Kelly is not just our back-office support, she is truly the face of our Aviation operations and the voice of the customers,” said Aurelien De Roussel, TSUSA Aviation Manager.
CHARTING A BRIGHT FUTURE
As a young professional in the oil and gas industry, her ambition is what got her to where she is today. After graduating in 2010 from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelors in Accounting, Kelly had the option between a full-time marketing position at a small public relations firm and accepting a temporary offer at Total Holdings as a Treasury Analyst. Although a temporary offer, she foresaw a long-term future at Total. She took the opportunity without hesitation and her drive to succeed in the oil and gas industry did not stop there. After five months at Total Holdings, Kelly was then recommended to a full-time position in Accounting at Total Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc., where she was mostly in charge of the accounting functions for the Special Fluids department until April 2013.
After two years of working her way up, Kelly was promoted to join the Aviation department at TSUSA as an Aviation Fuels Scheduler. “My background in accounting was really helpful as I moved from the financial side to the operation side of the business. I can tie both worlds together and see the big picture.” While moving from Accounting to Operations, she faced several challenges. Transitioning from only dealing with internal business units to daily interactions with pipelines, airports, truck racks, traders, and other jet fuel schedulers was highly demanding. At one point, Kelly was responsible for the fuel shipment to 12 airports, six pipelines, and two truck racks. It was challenging and demanded a 24/7 availability but she considers it a tremendous learning experience. Now, her position involves ordering and monitoring fuel inventory from several US Gulf Coast refineries, pipelines shipment to airports and also discussing current and forecasted fuelings with TSUSA Aviation’s worldwide customers for upcoming months.
It is due to the diligent work of schedulers like Kelly that the airplanes we fly on every day, are adequately fueled to reach their destinations.
“I’m the most proud of always being acknowledged for growing responsibilities and roles by management”, Kelly.
